In the future, it’s estimated that 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet. Come learn the basics of sensors, data hubs, and data streaming in this hands on learning experience. This lab is designed to introduce the basics of IoT. It uses a rapid prototyping platform, the Raspberry Pi, breadboards and simple cheap sensors alongside production ready libraries and cloud resources. In this session, we’ll focus on:
· Device Setup: You will begin by installing an operating system on your Raspberry Pi. You will then bridge an internet connection from your computer to the Raspberry Pi and configure it to connect to the cloud.This session is perfect for anyone in technology, developers, makers, or tinkerers. No background experience is needed but bring your imagination and your laptop (Windows preferred).

This will utilize some software and tools that are Windows based, so it is best to bring your Windows laptop. Royce Reed is the Market Manager for the J.P. Morgan Private Bank, responsible for overseeing the firm’s business in central and southwest Florida.
Prior to his assignment to the Florida market in 2010, Mr. Reed led the Oklahoma market for the J.P. Morgan Private Bank, joining the firm in 2005. Before that that, he held several leadership roles with a nationally known financial services firm as a market manager, private banker, or real estate asset manager over an eighteen year period, based in a variety of markets in the southwest and mid west USA. Prior to entering the financial services industry in 1987, Mr. Reed worked in commercial and residential real estate construction and property management in Texas. Mr. Reed received his B.A. from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Royce has held a number of community board leadership positions during his career, and is currently serving on the boards of the David L. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, and the Hillsborough Education Foundation.
Further, he is a member of the Tampa Bay Committee on Foreign Relations. He is also an accomplished musician and has performed with rock, country, and blues bands for over 30 years, as a keyboard player and vocalist.

Three will move on to compete in the regional competition.
All of the regional winners and a host of wild cards will be invited to participate in the Challenge Cup Global Finals next June in Washington, D.C. There, they’ll compete for over $1 million in prizes, as well as spend time with the investors, customers, media and other key connections that can help them succeed on a global scale.
To celebrate Hour of Code (www.code.org), The Iron Yard is offering a class for 13-17 year olds, where you'll have a chance to build a game from the ground up! This free class is for kids aged 13-17, and adults need to accompany the child during the class. The students will bring their own laptop to the class then will be guided through a code-based lesson that teaches basic programing concepts and will help them build a game.

Andy Gold, Ph.D., is a full-time business faculty member at Hillsborough Community College (HCC), and teaches in the graduate school at the University of Tampa, and the University of South Florida. In addition to his teaching duties, Gold is a co-founder of the HCC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, serving as an internal entrepreneurial evangelist at HCC. He is a lifelong entrepreneur having started multiple businesses over the past 22 years. He is the founder of Terrapath, Inc., a social entrepreneurial venture started in 1994. Recently, he co-founded e2venture, a consulting business that provides entrepreneurial mindset services to organizations, educators, and at-risk youth. Dr.Gold had a 12-year career in finance, working on Wall Street where he and a business partner raised $52 million in capital to start-up a hedge fund business. Gold currently lives in Tampa with his wife Anne, a middle school teacher. They have two sons, Matt who lives and works in New York City, and Greg who lives and works in Atlanta.
