Michael W. Fountain, Ph.D., MBA, FNAI

Michael W. Fountain serves as the Founding Director of the University of South Florida’s

(USF) university-wide Center for Entrepreneurship, which delivers the University-wide Graduate

Certificate in Entrepreneurship, the Master of Science Degree in Entrepreneurship in Applied

Technologies, tracts for MBA concentration in entrepreneurship, Dual graduate degree programs

in entrepreneurship and University-wide undergraduate minors in entrepreneurship. Under his

leadership, the USF’s graduate program in entrepreneurship has been ranked by Princeton

Review and Entrepreneur Magazine as a top 25 entrepreneurship educational programs in the

United States for the past 9 consecutive years. He holds faculty appointments in the Muma

College of Business, the Morsani College of Medicine, the USF Institute for Advanced Discovery

and Innovation, and the Colleges of Engineering and Pharmacy serving both as a Professor in

Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and

Pharmacy and as the John and Beverley Grant Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship in the Muma

College of Business. Dr. Fountain is a Founding Member and Fellow in the National Academy of

Inventors holding over 60 domestic and international patents which are used in over 150

healthcare and consumer products worldwide. He has served on the USASBE Board of Directors

both as the Vice President for Development and as Board Member at Large. Dr. Fountain has

been honored as one of the top 100 business leaders in Tampa Bay by Tampa Bay CEO. In 2014

he received the highest award given to USF research faculty “the 2014 the Excellence in

Research and Innovation award”.

Dr. Fountain has focused the past thirty years on creating, financing, growing and harvesting

biotechnology, medical device and life sciences companies. During his career Dr. Fountain has

founded or co-founded twelve new ventures, three of which became publicly traded companies.

During his corporate career he served in a variety of leadership roles including Chief Scientific

Officer, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. He is the author of numerous peer

reviewed articles in micro- and nano-drug delivery systems and entrepreneurship theory and

practice. Dr. Fountain received his Honors BS from Samford University, his MS and PhD from

Auburn University and his MBA from Bristol University.
